BPA safe insist makers, as EFSA consults on exposure

Producers of the controversial food packaging chemical bisphenol A (BPA), the PlasticsEurope Polycarbonate/Bisphenol A group, has flagged up the safety of their product in a 25 July statement. The statement came in response to the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA's) launch of a public consultation on its draft exposure assessment of BPA (see separate story in this issue). PlasticsEurope backed "EFSA's comprehensive and transparent science-based evaluation of BPA" and encouraged "all stakeholders interested in a science-based assessment process to participate."
