IPCC Calls for More Attention on Science During U.N. Climate Change Negotiations

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Nov. 4 called for ongoing United Nations-sponsored negotiations to pay attention to the science-related aspects of the climate change debate.rnIn a conference held on the sidelines of the Nov. 2-6 Barcelona climate change talks, the IPCC said that too much attention was being given to political concerns and more attention should be paid to the priorities that science says are most important.rn"The time has come for us to go back to the science of climate change," IPCC Chairman Rajendra Pachauri said in a video address.rn"We need to focus on our responsibilities. It should be science that determines our positions and it should be science that tells us the way to act for the benefit of ourselves and all the species that live on this planet as we move toward a good agreement in Copenhagen," said Pachauri, who accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 on behalf of the IPCC.
