Tri-Party Agreement, Consent Decree Proposed in Lawsuit Over Hanford Cleanup

Federal and state officials announced a proposed consent decree and a new tri-party agreement Aug. 11 that would resolve a lawsuit against the federal government over delays in cleaning up the Hanfordrnnuclear waste site in Richland, Wash. (Washington v. Chu, E.D. Wash., No. 08-5085, modified decree filed 8/11/09) The decree, which was filed Aug. 11, commits the U.S. government to what the parties called a "realistic but aggressive schedule" to complete the cleanup by 2047.
