Industry Groups Concerned With Costs Of Proposed Underground Tank Rules

Electric utility groups, small gasoline marketers, and others expressed concerns in public comments about the "burdensome" compliance costs of proposed new federal regulations for underground storage tanks. Many of the comments also praised the Environmental Protection Agency for outreach efforts during development of the proposed rule and expressed support for updating storage tank regulations, which were last revised in 1988. However, several groups, including the Petroleum Marketers Association of America, asked EPA to withdraw the "seriously flawed" rule (see related story).
