Hastings Issues Subpoena for Documents On Interior's Offshore Drilling Moratorium

Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) issued a subpoena April 3 to the Interior Department to force the turnover of documents on development of a 2010 report that contained Interior's recommendation for a six-month offshore drilling moratorium after the start of the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The House Natural Resources Committee voted in March to give Hastings, the committee chairman, authority to issue subpoenas after the Republican majority on the panel concluded that Interior was resisting voluntary release of the documents (43 ER 838, 3/30/12).
