Raleigh, N.C.-North Carolina has seen significant improvement in its air and water quality, despite a large population increase, according to a reportreleased by the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources Jan. 6. However, that population growth, coupled with a tight budget, poses a challenge to future protection efforts, the department said in its 2011 State of the Environment Report.
