Groups Ask EPA to Conduct Assessment Of Mining's Effect on Lake Superior Basin

A number of conservation, business, faith-based and tribal groups have asked Region V of the Environmental Protection Agency to assess the effects of mining on the Lake Superior Basin. The groups, from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin, Dec. 16 presented Region V with a letter asking for the assessment, noting that mining projects in all three states are raising concerns about the industry's effects on land, water and air quality.
