摘要

Two Hong Kong-based companies have agreed to pay $7.5 million in connection with the 2005 grounding of the M/V Cape Flattery off Hawaii, which damaged more than 19 acres of coral reef, according to the Justice Department (United States v. Cape Flattery Ltd., D. Haw., No. l:12-cv-0693, 12/21/12). The majority of the payment, about $5.9 million, will go toward designing, implementing, and monitoring efforts to restore the coral reef habitat and other resources affected by the grounding, according to the proposed consent decree published Jan. 8 in the Federal Register (78 Fed. Reg. 1251).
