A Structural Analysis of Quality Management Practices in Hong Kong-based Manufacturing Companies

This paper reports results from a structural and systematic analysis of quality management practices in Hong Kong (HK)-ownedmanufacturing companies in mainland China. The research will reveal whether the HK/China companies have reached the systematic and synthetic nature of quality management as suggested by the MBNQA model. A conceptual model was developed from previous studies and from MBNQA framework guidelines. The results from the HK sample were analyzed according to this conceptual model, using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) methods. The result shows that the HK companies have not reached the synthesis, alignment and integration as suggested by the MBNQA framework. There are missing linkages associated with leadership, process management and information management. Practical implications are discussed.
