EPA Adds Colorado Smelter Site to Priorities List

The Environmental Protection Agency added the Colorado Smelter Superfund site in Pueblo, Colo., to the National Priorities List in a final rule scheduled for publication in the Dec. 11 Federal Register. EPA said it had found elevated levels of lead and arsenic in residential soil at the site, which is in a mixed-use neighborhood, and large slag piles near the site. The agency proposed to add the site to the NPL in May (45 ER 1489, 5/16/14)The rule will take effect Jan. 12, 2015.
