EPA Proposes Three Sites, Adds Five Others To National Priorities List of Waste Sites

Three hazardous waste sites would be added to the National Priorities List under a rule proposed Sept. 22 by the Environmental Protection Agency (79 Fed. Reg. 56539). In a related action, the agency said in a Sept. 16 statement it is adding five sites to the National Priorities List, the list of the most contaminated sites in the U.S. The EPA proposed to place the 35th Avenue site (residential soil contamination) in Birmingham, Ala., the Kokomo Contaminated Ground Water Plume in Kokomo, Ind., and the DSC McLouth Steel Gibraltar Plant (steel finishing operation) in Gibraltar, Mich., on the list, a key step in determining which sites need further investigation.
