Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) has joined a coalition of business and civic groups committed to defeating two proposed ballot measures (Initiatives 88 and 89) that would place in the state constitution strict new requirements on oil and gas activity. Hickenlooper said July 17 he will work with Colora-dans for Responsible Reform to do "whatever it takes" to defeat the citizens' initiatives if they make it to the November ballot. "It is clear these initiatives will kill jobs and damage our state's economy," the governor said. "The oil and gas industry can operate safely, but it will be crippled if these measures pass."
