Company Indicted for Illegal Discharges Of Stormwater Into Hawaiian Coastal Waters

A federal grand jury in Honolulu indicted Waste Management of Hawaii Inc., its vice president and general manager, and its environmental protection manager on 13 counts of illegally discharging contaminated stormwater on multiple occasions, conspiracy and making false statements to the Hawaii Department of Health and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (United States v. Waste Mgmt. of Hawaii Inc., D. Haw., No. 14-004684/30/2014). According to the April 30 indictment filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii, Waste Management of Hawaii (WMH) allegedly allowed illegal discharges of contaminated stormwater from the Waimanolo Gulch Sanitary Landfill into the state's coastal waters following heavy rains in December 2010 and January 2011.
