Agencies Granting Most Extension Requests For Mercury Rule Compliance, Survey Says

A new survey of states shows that state and local air agencies have granted most requests for one-year extensions to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency's mercury and air toxics standards. The survey, released May 1 by the by the National Association of Clean Air Agencies, identified 107 extension requests submitted by existing power plants, which must comply with the new standards by April 16, 2015, unless an extension is granted. Of those requests, 98 were granted, two were denied, five are under consideration and two were returned to the facilities for additional information, according to the survey.
