Murkowski Promotes Federal Leadership On Interrelated Energy, Water Challenges

Sen. lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) used a speech and the release of a white paper May 6 to try to spark more discussion about the interdependence of energy and water, a subject that especially crops up in the context of droughts, hydraulic fracturing, electric power generation and the growth of cities in dry regions. Murkowski, speaking before the policy research organization Atlantic Council, added her voice to those who have been calling for a more systematic consideration of the energy-water nexus to avoid shortages of either resource.
