Streamlined Permitting Included In Highway Bill Conference Report

The Senate version of a bill to streamline environmental reviews and speed permitting of major construction projects was included in the final conference report to highway funding legislation, the bill's sponsors said. In a joint statement, Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) announced that their Federal Permitting Improvement Act (S. 280) was included in the highway conference report. The transportation bill was passed by the House and Senate on Dec. 3 and sent to President Barack Obama (see related story).
