Volkswagen Suspends Sales of Audi, VW Diesels in North America, Cited by EPA

Volkswagen AG is voluntarily stopping the sale of some new and used Volkswagen brand and Audi diesels in North America as it works to resolve new allegations from the Environmental Protection Agency. The company told its dealers late Nov. 3 to halt sales of used and new diesel Touareg sport utility vehicles from model year 2013 and later. Audi told its dealers to halt sales of new and used diesel versions of the A6, A7, A8 and A8L sedans as well as the Q5 and Q7 SUVs, spokesman Brad Stertz said in an interview. The notices follow a decision Nov. 3 by Porsche's North American division to voluntarily suspend sales of diesel-powered Cayenne sport utility vehicles from model years 2014 to 2016 until further notice. VW reiterated that the EPA notice was unexpected and that owners can operate their vehicles normally. It also came the day before Moody's Investors Service downgraded the automaker's credit rating (see related story).
