Ohio Drops Three Anti-Fracking Initiatives From November Ballot Following Protests

Ohio's secretary of state has stripped three anti-fracking county charter initiatives from the November ballot. Ruling in favor of protests to the proposals filed with his office, Secretary of State Jon Husted (R) said Aug. 13 that provisions in each initiative tied to oil and gas exploration represent "an attempt to circumvent state law in a manner the courts have already found to be in violation of the Ohio Constitution." This summer, residents of Medina, Fulton, and Athens counties collected enough signatures to place community rights initiatives on the November ballot.
