EPA, Governors OK Strategies for Reaching Goals Set in 2014; Hold to Agriculture Focus

Numerous new tactics and strategies to restore the Chesapeake Bay and protect its watershed were approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and leaders from the six bay states July 23, but the U.S. Agriculture Department refused to sign on to one significant measure. The collective body, the Chesapeake Executive Council, approved 25 "management strategies" to attain 10 mostly aspirational goals set out in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement that were approved by the council in July 2014. One of the tactics called for installing more fences near streams to keep livestock from wading in and polluting the water.
