摘要

The world saw a record 189 natural catastrophes in 2014, but they didn't drive up overall economic losses, insured losses or lives lost in what reinsurer Swiss Re says may be a good sign for efforts to build resilience to climate change. Global economic losses from natural catastrophes and man-made disasters totaled about $110 billion in 2014, down from $138 billion in 2013 and well below the $200 billion average for the previous decade, according to Swiss Re estimates released March 25. About $35 billion, or one-third, of the overall losses were covered by the insurance industry-also below average.
