摘要

The EPA is relaxing some of its cleanup goals for the Reich Farms Superfund site in Toms River, N.J., based on recent scientific studies. The proposed new goals would change the cleanup's target levels for styrene-acrylonitrile trimer, or SAN Trimer, from "no detectable levels" to 185 parts per million for soils and 60 parts per billion for groundwa-ter. SAN Trimer is already below these levels at the site. This is the first time specific cleanup goals have been set for SAN Trimer, a development that may have implications for other New Jersey Superfund sites. The changes to the cleanup goals are not expected to significantly change the cleanup timeline or costs for Union Carbide Corp., the potentially responsible party for the site, according to the EPA.
