Navajo Nation Seeks $160 Million In Damages for Gold King Mine Spill

The Navajo Nation is seeking $160 million to offset damages and ongoing harm caused by the Environmental Protection Agency-triggered Gold King Mine spill in Colorado in 2015. The damages sought under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) will "remedy injuries to the tribe's economy, ecosystem and culture as a result" of the August 2015 spill, the tribe said in a letter to the EPA Dec. 12.
