Los Angeles County Lawsuit Seeks Safety Shut-off Valves at SoCalGas Wells

Los Angeles County is seeking a court order to require safety shut-off valves on the 200 natural gas wells at four storage fields Southern California Gas Co. owns and operates in the county (People v. Southern California Gas Co., Cal. Super. Ct., No. BC628120, 7/25/16). The Sempra Energy utility has a duty to ensure its gas wells pose no danger to the health and safety of nearby communities, the county said in a lawsuit filed July 25 in California Superior Court.
