Vermont Towns Granted Authority To Site Solar, Wind Energy Projects

Vermont towns would get to decide where to place wind turbines and solar projects, under a bill opposed by House Republicans that passed the Legislature. The bill (S. 260) passed during special sessions of the House and Senate, after Gov. Peter Shumlin (D) had vetoed a similar bill June 6. Shumlin said he will sign S. 260. "This modified legislation will allow us to continue to lead the way on renewable energy while giving local communities more say as we chart a cleaner, greener energy future together," Shumlin said in a June 9 statement, the same day the bill was passed by the House and Senate.
