Senate Votes Down Flint Water Funding; Barrasso Seeks to Bar Green Climate Funds

The Senate voted June 9 once again to reject funding to address water issues in Flint, Mich., on a pending defense authorization bill, while a Republican senator readied a long-shot bid to attach to the bill an amendment blocking U.S. funding of an international climate fund. The Flint funding amendment (S. Amdt. 4549), offered by Sens. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), would have increased budget caps by $18 billion for non-defense-related programs, including a $1.9 billion increase for water infrastructure. But it fell by a vote of 43-55, as proponents fell well short of the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture and move to debate on the measure.
