McCain Seeks Answers from EPA On Iron King Superfund Site Cleanup

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has called on the Environmental Protection Agency to indicate when it will complete evaluating cleanup alternatives at a Superfund mine and smelter site in Arizona. The EPA had no immediate response May 31 to the senator when contacted by Bloomberg BNA. The request for an update concerning the Dewey-Humboldt Iron King Mine and Humboldt Smelter Superfund site came in a letter from McCain to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy dated May 25 and released by the senator's office May 26. In his letter, McCain said he also wants to know the EPA's plan for removal of contaminants from the site, as well as plans to open a public comment period in connection with any plan.
