First Post-Paris Climate Talks in Abu Dhabi To Place Strong Focus on Renewable Energy

The United Nations will host a special one-day, high-level stocktaking session Jan. 18 on the outcomes from last month's climate summit in Paris, focusing on actions that countries can take before 2020 that will strengthen the impacts of the Paris Agreement, which is set to enter into force thatyear. The discussions in Abu Dhabi will include UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres, and Laurent Fabius, France's minister of foreign affairs who was president of the Paris summit. The talks will come the day after the conclusion of the 6th assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency, or IRENA. Those talks will include representatives from more than 150 countries, along with private sector representatives, environmentalists and international organizations Jan. 16-17, also in Abu Dhabi, with attendees discussing ways to increase world output of renewable energy.
