A California resident alleged Tesla Inc.'s solar roof products employ a “bait and switch” technique to force homeowners to pay more than a previously agreed-upon price, according to acomplaint in federal district court.Matthew Amans, who sued on behalf of himself and a putative class, said the company advertises the solar product’s affordability as a key feature. But Tesla intentionally advertises alower estimated price than the final cost, according to the complaint filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The company’s “Solar Roof” comprises individual roof tiles that each have solar cells capable of generating energy. The product was touted as “more durable than a traditional roof and amore affordable energy solution for homeowners,” but used “subprime” technology when it entered the market, the complaint said.
