Calpers Opposes Berkshire Committee Members, Citing Environment

The California Public Employees' Retirement System said it's opposing the re-election of members of two Berkshire Hathaway Inc. board committees, citing what it called failures related to the conglomerate's environmental disclosures. Calpers, the largest U.S. public pension and a shareholder in Warren Buffett's Berkshire, said the members of the audit and governance committees hadn't provided "accurate and timely disclosure of risks and opportunities, such as those associated with climate change," according to a filing on Friday. The pension said it will be voting against committee members Susan Decker, David Gottesman, Charlotte Guyman, Thomas Murphy, Walter Scott Jr. and Meryl Witmer. Calpers also said it was concerned with the board's long tenure and "lack of board refreshment." A representative for Berkshire didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
