European Parliament Lays Out Wish List for Carbon Tax on Imports

A new European Union levy on carbon-intensive imports should initially cover intermediate goods including cement, steel, aluminum, and chemicals, European Parliament lawmakers said Wednesday.The levy, planned for introduction in 2023, should then be extended gradually to other imported industrial products until it has coverage equivalent to the EU's domestic emissions trading system, lawmakers said in a nonbinding resolution.
