PFAS Resolutions Overwhelmingly Approved by Firefighters’ Union

Members of the International Association of Fire Fighters voted last week to cut financial ties with gear makers due to concerns that the garments contain high levels of PFAS, so-called "forever chemicals," that some fear have led to increasing cancer rates in the fire service.Resolution 28, which in part asks the union to no longer accept sponsorships from industry groups or manufacturers, passed by a delegate vote of 1,536 to 10. Resolution 31, also PFAS-related, called on the union to seek further testing on chemicals in gear and help develop safer alternatives. It passed by a margin of 1,472 to 4.
