Clean-Up Standards for Removing Lead-Based Paint Lowered by EPA

The EPA is lowering the lead-dust levels that determine whether people can safely reoccupy theirhomes and childcare-facilities after lead-based paint is removed.The Environmental Protection Agency’s rule on Monday (RIN: 2070-AK50), lowered the “postabatementclearance levels” from 40 to 10 micrograms per square foot on floors and from 250 to100 micrograms per square foot on window sills for homes and child care facilities. Those levelsmatch the EPA’s 2019 updated standards describing volumes of lead-containing dust that endangerchildren’s developing brains.
