Owners of 20 New York Storage Tank Sites Strike Cleanup Deal

Chestnut Petroleum Distributor Inc. and several related companies will pay $187,000 in civil penalties to settle claims they violated federal underground storage tank requirements under a consent decree approved Friday by the Southern District of New York. As part of the agreement the defendants also pledged to maintain compliance with all relevant Resource Conservation and Recovery Act provisions, inspect all overflow devices at least every three years, and conduct monthly maintenance walk through inspections.
