Maryland County in Fight Over Flight Routes Seeks Rehearing

The Federal Aviation Administration failed to give notice after it moved flight routes over a historic area of Maryland, so a 60-day deadline to challenge the route changes was never triggered, Howard County, Md., argued in its petition for rehearing. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled in August that the county was too late in challenging the FAA's changes that moved the majority of departures from an airport over residences, parks, and historic areas. The statute of limitations began to run in 2016, when the flight routes went into effect, the court said.
