Rat Poison Could Be Banned in California to Save Bobcats, Owls

California could ban a rodenticide used to kill house mice and rats because it has also been found to harm lions, bobcats, owls, hawks, and other wildlife. The California Senate and Assembly on Monday passed the bill (AB 1788), which would ban the use of second-generation angicoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) until state regulators adopt use rules to reduce the risk to wildlife. The bill now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) for a signature or veto. His office doesn't comment on bills and says they are evaluated when they get to his desk.
