Building greener 21st-century cars is not just about making money

As we observe the old 20th-century car business incinerated in the credit crisis we should be looking for the phoenix of a 21st-century car industry to replace it. Henry Ford, father of the modern car, would have relished the challenge. In his day, he transformed the horseless carriage from a vehicle for the rich to transport for everyone. He would be surprised to see that under the bonnet of modern cars the core components are not so dissimilar to the cars that he built. A century of progress should have taken the industry further forward. I am sure that Henry Ford would support the transformation required to build greener cars.
