The invention relates to a method of building a green tyre (1) or a green tyre carcass (2) on a tyre building drum (10), comprising an inner layer (4), reinforcing profiles (9) for sidewalls (8), at least one carcass ply (3) and bead regions (5) with bead cores (6) and bead fillers (7), wherein the tyre building drum is provided with peripheral pockets (11) for receiving the reinforcing profiles (9) and wherein first the inner layer (4), then the reinforcing profiles (9) and the carcass ply (plies) (3) and finally the bead cores (6) and the bead fillers (7) are mounted on the tyre building drum (10). The reinforcing profiles (9) are formed by winding one or more material strips (12) or by winding material strips of different materials.
