Written by an experienced practitioner of urban regeneration, this book provides case-study reports on urban development efforts in three postindustrial American cities: Philadelphia, Camden, and Allentown. In various ways the different chapters describe the interplay between economic development and human capital development. The focus of seven of the chapters is Philadelphia, with two chapters on Camden and one on Allentown. John Kromer offers us a personal memoir of his many years working on downtown and neighbourhood reinvestment in disinvested, cash-starved cities.
