Carbon offsets: accommodation or resistance?

In the run-up to the December 2015 Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), nothing seems to indicate that carbon markets and carbon-offsetting project activities might disappear from the climate change mitigation agenda. The apparently plausible global climate change deal will contemplate these instruments as legitimate mitigation options, leaving to signatory parties the decision to participate in existing carbon markets and offsetting activities.
