Idaho Governor Opposing Revamped Cleanup Plan At Key Superfund Site

Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter (R) is at odds with EPA over the agency's plans to amend the cleanup plan for a site that environmentalists believe provides a key test of the Obama administration's ability and willingness to revamp Bush-era cleanup decisions. At issue is the Obama EPA's proposed amendment to a 2002 record of decision (ROD) for the Upper Basin of the Coeur d'Alene River, Bunker Hill and Metallurgical Complex Superfund Site, which is considered one of the largest contaminated sites in the country. The agency is proposing to make changes to the ROD that it says will better protect human health and the environment than the Bush-era plan.
