The chemical industry and state regulators are raising serious doubts about EPA's proposal to lower the drinking water standards for the ubiquitous chemicals trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE), saying analytical methods for detecting the contaminants at lower levels are unreliable.rnAdditionally, public health laboratories are urging the agency to modify its synthetic organic chemicals (SOC) detection rule because the current requirements "continue to waste valuable laboratory and public water system resources without offering a corresponding increase in the protection of health."
