摘要

California officials have set a first-in-the-nation drinking water public health goal (PHG) for the ubiquitous metal hexavalent chromium (Cr6), a move that is already prompting calls for EPA to pursue a national standard, though such a move is likely still years away. Both industry groups and environmentalists said in response to the state's standard that EPA should set a national standard. But the state action appeared to be a setback for chemical industry officials because the state rejected the sector's call to await results of an upcoming study that the sector hopes will soften both an upcoming EPA risk assessment and California's ongoing efforts.
