摘要

The lead author of the controversial Cornell University study finding that natural gas could have a larger carbon footprint than coal is defending the analysis against attacks by a natural gas industry-allied group that alleges the methodology in the study is fatally flawed. In an exclusive interview with Inside EPA, Cornell Professor Robert W. Howarth says the attacks on his study "completely misconstrue what we did" in examining electric sector greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and also appear to rely on outdated estimates of methane's warming potential that downplay the environmental footprint of natural gas extraction.
