Environmentalists Seek RFS Waiver Due To Water, Air Pollution Increases

Several environmental groups are backing calls for EPA to waive its renewable fuel standard (RFS) by citing the harm the standard is causing through increased greenhouse gases (GHGs) and water pollution, an attempt to bolster calls by livestock groups and others who are seeking an RFS waiver based on the economic harm it is causing. The Clean Air Act allows EPA to waive the standard's renewable fuel production requirements for up to one year if the agency finds that the RFS would severely harm the economy or environment of a state, region, or the United States.
