EPA Ramps Up Focus On Flame Retardants In 2013 Risk Assessment Plan

EPA is planning to ramp up its focus on flame retardants’ potential health risks as part of its Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Work Plan program of seven risk assessments it plans to launch in 2013, including a review of four flame retardants that EPA will use to inform possible future assessments of 16 similar substances. "EPA is committed to more fully understanding the potential risks of flame retardant chemicals, taking action if warranted, and identifying safer substitutes when possible," James Jones, acting assistant administrator in EPA's Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP), said in a March 27 statement.
