摘要

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) is pointing to EPA's recent release of risk assessments for five commonly used chemicals to bolster the need for his bill to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), arguing that under the current statute EPA has little authority to limit use of the chemicals should it conclude that they are dangerous to human health or the environment. "EPA should be applauded for using this authority to evaluate the risk of common chemicals that are found in homes and businesses across the country," Lautenberg said in a Jan. 4 statement. "However, EPA is still seriously limited under existing law, and we must reform TSCA if we ever hope to truly protect American families from toxic chemicals.... We will continue working to reform this broken law to ensure that every chemical that comes into contact with a child has been proven safe."
