Industry Seeks To Delay EPA Lead Paint Survey On Commercial Buildings

Commercial building managers and contractors are pressing EPA to delay its plan to collect data about maintenance and renovation practices that could release lead from paint used in older buildings, calling on officials to first assess federal buildings and prove renovations there cause hazardous exposures to lead before proceeding with its survey. "In framing the [information collection request (ICR),] EPA is asking the wrong questions at this juncture," according to Feb. 4 comments on EPA's proposed ICR from the Commercial Properties Coalition, a group whose members include a host of realty, construction, management and other interests.
