EPA Extends Comment Period On Pharmaceutical, Generator Waste Rules

Responding to requests from states and industry, EPA is extending the public comment periods for two draft waste rules the agency proposed together that aim to streamline requirements for pharmaceutical waste and other hazardous waste. The agency in Nov. 5 Federal Register notices extended the public comment periods by 30 days for the draft hazardous waste Pharmaceuticals and hazardous waste generator improvements rules. The comment periods now close on Dec. 24. EPA released the draft rules simultaneously Aug. 31, and published them in the Federal Register Sept. 25, triggering a 60-day comment period that is slated to end Nov. 24. While a 30-day extension responds to requests by states, the retail industry and others, it falls short of the amount of additional time sought by these parties.
