EPA Updates Calculator For Radionuclide Cleanups To Improve Accuracy

EPA has updated the remediation calculator it uses to conduct risk assessments and develop screening-level cleanup numbers for radionuclides at contaminated cleanup sites, adopting much more granular data into default values and, according to EPA, largely improving the accuracy and capability of the calculator. EPA in early December released a revised calculator for Preliminary Remediation Goals (PRG) for radionuclides, updating the exposure pathway for backyard gardening and agriculture land uses.
