California EJ Groups Oppose CARB's Nichols For Biden EPA Administrator

A prominent California environmental justice (EJ) group and Friends of the Earth (FOE) are actively opposing the potential nomination of California air board chief Mary Nichols as EPA administrator under the incoming Biden administration, charging she has backed cap-and-trade and other programs that hurt disadvantaged communities. "These examples of Mary Nichols neglecting environmental justice, communities of color, and climate programs that benefit frontline communities regretfully show that she is not fit to lead an EPA that values environmen-tal justice," states a Nov. 24 letter from the California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA) and FOE to Presidentelect Joe Biden's transition team. "Her inability to work well with environmental justice groups and leaders in California indicates that she is not the right person to oversee and implement climate and environmental programs for the country."
